East Biloxi, MS -Rebuilt Home

Another great success has been the rebuilding of a home in East Biloxi, MS. With the help of local government and volunteer agencies, we located a family with deep roots in the community whose home was all but washed away. Over the course of four months, we funded, coordinated and managed a construction site that hummed day-in and day-out with volunteers having the time of their lives, accomplishing tasks they never knew they could handle.

The project was managed by our own David Kramer, a retired airline pilot with a great ability to solve problems "on the fly", who developed a great friendship with homeowners Cynthia and Dan, and gingerly balanced the changing needs of the evolving worksite with a constantly rotating, and often less-than-professionally-skilled, volunteer workforce. Whatever these volunteers lacked in trade-skills, they more than made up for with sweat equity, heartfelt commitment and a profound dedication to helping others in need, and Gulf Coast Works could not have done any of this without them.

The end result was a rebuilt home and a restored family that regained the hope that seemed to have washed away in the receding waters of Katrina. You can just feel it in the video-tour that Cynthia gives here...
